HOW BEST TO DIFFUSE CURLY HAIR
Have you ever heard the saying “hair that dries together, stays together?” Curls become set in their shape as your hair goes from damp to dry, which is why it’s important to set your curls up for success before you diffuse your hair. If you’re wondering how to diffuse your curly hair, we’ve got the tips to help keep your curls soft and defined, not hard or sticky or frizzy and dry.
How to diffuse curly hair
Your hair is unique, so there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to how to diffuse your hair. We’ve made a guide to get your started, but you can tweak it or change it entirely depending on what works best for your hair.
After your usual shower routine, detangle your hair while it’s still wet. Wet hair is more flexible than dry hair, so it detangles more easily.
- Add Styling products to your wet or damp hair. You can mix-and-match mousses, oils, and gels to find the perfect products for you, but there’s one non-negotiable: a Heat protectant Don’t let the diffuser anywhere near your curls unless you’ve taken this step.
Help shape your curls by gently cupping them, starting at the ends, and scrunching them up toward your scalp.
Section out your hair. You want each section to fit into the diffuser without overflowing.
Section by section, place your hair into the diffuser cup, starting at the ends. Press the diffuser toward your scalp so you’re helping the curls set and hold their shape as they dry, then turn on the diffuser. Once the hair is dry, turn off the diffuser before you remove it – if you leave it on when you pull it away, this can cause your hair to frizz.
